Mr P's Favorite Children's Books
Favorite Books about Love
Our favorite presents to the little ones for Valentine's Day would be the books that tell them how much they are loved. Many of the books here are proven to touch, delight and fill everywhere with love every time you read them. Some of them also make you drop a tear or two. Heart-warming, life-affirming, witty and totally lovely books about unconditional and never ending love of parents for their children. Here's our list...
1. Guess How Much I Love You (by Sam McBratney)

These two 'nutbrown hares' are the loveliest water color bunnies since Peter Rabbit. It repeats cute competition between the father hare and the baby hare showing how much they love each other, each time trying to outdo each other. The last page is the tenderest and sweetest moment that has made many parents' eyes water.
It's a must have classic.

2. I Love You Through and Through (by Bernadette Rossetti Shustak)

Contemporary illustrations with an adorable idea of going through a child's body parts one by one and say 'I love your fingers ... and your toes ...' etc. Children love this connection to their body and it makes them feel showered with love from head to toe.

3. The Runaway Bunny (by Margaret Wise Brown & Clement Hurd)

Another classic of Margaret Wise Brown, of 'Goodnight Moon'. A little bunny wants to run away from his mom (as they do), but the mommy bunny follows him everywhere. "I will run after you, for you're my little bunny". Imaginary scene after scene in which the little bunny becomes a bird, a fish, a rock in the mountain ...etc are delightful and beautifully drawn. It's never been out of print since it's publication in 1942.

4. Counting Kisses (by Karen Katz)

Karen Katz's drawing style, polka dots and pastel colors are so warm and comforting. The baby gets showered with good-night kisses all over her body from every member of the family. A happy, charming book that's perfect for snuggling into bed with.

5. I Love You Stinky Face (by Lisa Mccourt & Cyd Moore)

"Would you still love me.... if I were a big scary ape" or " a green alien" or "a super stinky skunk"? You can imagine boys loving this. Wild, fun and contemporary version of 'The Runnaway Bunny' style story with brilliant, warm and quirky illustration. It assures children of their parent's unconditional love for them while making them giggle and laugh.
